Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp
Black Fancy Tiger shrimp are a selectively bred variant of Caridina cantonensis, typically growing to 2-3 cm in length. They feature a deep, rich black base coloration with striking white or light gray tiger stripes across their carapace and abdomen. The intensity of the black can range from a deep, almost velvet-like appearance to a slightly translucent dark gray, depending on genetics and environmental factors.
Their body structure is similar to other Caridina species, with a slightly curved rostrum, well-developed eyes on short stalks, and long antennae. The walking legs (pereopods) are usually a dark, smoky gray, while the swimming legs (pleopods) may be slightly more transparent.
Males are generally smaller and may have less intense coloration compared to females. Mature females develop a more rounded abdomen for carrying eggs.
Ideal living conditions for Black Fancy Tiger shrimp are similar to those of Red Fancy Tigers, including soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0-7.0, GH 4-6, KH 0-2), temperatures between 22-26°C (72-79°F), and a diet consisting of high-quality shrimp food, blanched vegetables, and biofilm.
