Description
Extreme Blue Bolt Shrimp
The Extreme Blue Bolt Shrimp is a strikingly beautiful variety of Caridina cantonensis, prized for its intense, solid blue coloration that ranges from light blue to a deep sapphire tone. This coloration results from selective breeding and is more vibrant than that of the standard Blue Bolt Shrimp. Extreme Blue Bolts are particularly attractive in aquascaped tanks where their coloration contrasts with lush green plants.
To keep Extreme Blue Bolt Shrimp thriving, aquarists should maintain a carefully controlled environment. The optimal parameters include a pH of 5.8 to 6.5, a general hardness (GH) between 4-6, and a temperature range of 68°F to 74°F (20°C to 23°C). They prefer soft, slightly acidic water and are particularly sensitive to water fluctuations, so stable conditions are essential. These shrimp also benefit from a tank with low lighting, soft substrates, and live plants or mosses to provide cover and promote biofilm growth, which they enjoy grazing on.
Feeding involves a well-rounded diet of high-quality shrimp-specific food, with occasional supplements of blanched vegetables and algae. Due to their sensitive nature, it’s best to keep Extreme Blue Bolts with other peaceful Caridina varieties or on their own to prevent stress. These shrimp are best suited for intermediate to advanced shrimp keepers due to their need for consistent water parameters and their sensitivity to water quality changes.
