Description
Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp
Red Fancy Tiger shrimp are a selectively bred variety of Caridina cantonensis, originating from the popular Tiger shrimp lineage. They typically grow to a length of 2-3 cm (0.8-1.2 inches). Their bodies display a striking red base coloration with distinct black tiger stripes running horizontally across their carapace and abdomen. The intensity of the red coloration can vary from a deep crimson to a lighter orange-red, depending on genetics and environmental factors.
The shrimp’s body is semi-transparent, allowing for partial visibility of internal organs. They possess well-developed eyes on short stalks and long, slender antennae. Their rostrum is relatively short and slightly curved upward. The walking legs (pereopods) are translucent with a slight reddish tint, while the swimming legs (pleopods) are nearly transparent.
Males are generally smaller and less intensely colored than females. Mature females develop a more rounded abdomen to accommodate developing eggs.
